Rugby Victories!

Hello everyone,

It’s getting a little cooler every day now as we get deeper into Autumn. Soon we will need sweaters in the evenings. I hope you stayed safe during typhoon Hagabis last Saturday. It made landfall over Izu and caused damage and flooding in many areas. Fuji City was relatively fine. It was very windy and rainy in the afternoon and evening, but once it had passed, there was no flooding in the area. There was news of other areas around Shizuoka prefecture which weren’t so lucky. Some rivers broke their banks and flooded towns or caused landslides. There are typhoons every autumn in Japan, but this was one of the biggest we have ever experienced.

Have you been watching the Rugby World Cup? Japan had another great match, beating Scotland 28 – 21 last Sunday. It was a very exciting match, with Japan dominating the first half with some brilliant trys. They were very creative and showed great defence to hold off Scotland’s attack. Scotland made a comeback towards the end, which was quite nerve-wracking. But Japan held off until the end and celebrated their victory. This was the final match of the group stages and Japan has a perfect 4 wins out of 4 games. They beat two higher ranked teams, Ireland and Scotland. This is the first time Japan have qualified for the quarter finals, and they will face South Africa next Sunday. Ireland also qualified from the group after beating Samoa last Saturday 47 – 5. Japan’s win against Scotland put Ireland in second place in the group, which means Ireland will play against New Zealand in the quarter final next Saturday. This is not good news! New Zealand are extremely strong, and I don’t know if Ireland has much of a chance. We will wait and see next weekend. Good luck to Ireland and Japan!
