Hello everyone!

I hope you are enjoying the final weeks of warm weather before winter comes, even if we have been getting a lot of rain lately. Last weekend we ignored the rain as best as we could to enjoy the Karigane Matsuri at the Fuji River!

If you have never been to the Karigane Matsuri, you are missing out! Not only is there a lot of food and drink vendors but there are games, crafts and music. Best of all is the main attraction, the fire throwing and fireworks!

Near the Fuji River, 3 tall poles are set up 2 of which are over 30 metres high. On top of these poles are giant baskets made with dried sticks and are filled with fireworks! And on top of those baskets is a full, dried tree. What a sight! But what are these giant baskets for? Well, dozens of people have bundled of sticks which are attached to a short length of rope. These bundles are set on fire and with the help of the swinging rope, are tossed up the many meters to the giant baskets. If your aim in good, your bundle of sticks will set the basket on fire! Then the real show begins as the basket and tree burn while the fireworks inside explode with various patterns and colours. All the while, may drummers are playing loud bass drums to help create even more excitement.

Though the wind and rain made things difficult for the people tossing, all 3 baskets burned down with a giant flame and the festival ended with a big fireworks display. It was an amazing time and a unique festival!

みなさんこんにちは！

最近雨の日が多いですが、冬の前の最後の暖かい時期、みなさんが楽しんでくださっていれば幸いです

先週末富士川で雨をできるだけ気にせず、かりがね祭りを楽しんできました！

もし一度もかりがね祭りに行ったことがない人は損していますよ！食べ物や飲み物だけでなく、ゲーム、クラフト、音楽などもあります。

なんといっても目玉の投げ松明と花火が最高です！

富士川の近くに日本足の３本の棒が設置され、その高さは３０メートル以上あります。そのてっぺんには枯れ枝で作られ、花火のいっぱい入った巨大なカゴがありますそしてそれらのかごの上には乾燥させた木が入っています。なんという眺めでしょう

ですがこのかごは一体何のためにあるのでしょう大勢の人々が短い縄で束ねられた枝を持ちます。これらの束は火をつけられ、縄を揺らすことによって何メートルも上の巨大なかごめがけて投げられます。狙いが良ければ枝の束はかごに火をつけます

そうして中の花火が様々な色や形に弾ける間、かごと木が燃え、本当のショーが始まります。

しばらくの間中大勢の太鼓奏者たちが大きな低い音でより場を盛り上げようと太鼓を叩きます。

強い風と雨で投げるのは大変でしたが、３つすべてのかごが大きく燃え上がり、まつりは大きな花火で締めくくられました。

とても素晴らしい時間、そしてユニークなお祭りでした
