Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a nice Silver Week and were able to do something fun or catch up on some rest (or homework!). During Silver Week we were able to do some fun activities and short trips, our first was a special ride to western Shizuoka. We went on the SL, steam locomotive, train!

The SL trains depart from a town called Kanaya which is about a two hour journey from Fuji. When we got there we were able to take a lot of photos and look inside the old steam train engine room which was very interesting. The SL trains were made in the 1930s so they are nearly 100 years old! The passenger carriages were built in the 1950s and 1960s so they are very basic, but have a unique atmosphere. There are also special conductors on the trains who will sing songs and explain the history of the trains and the locations you get to see!

We took the SL train from Kanaya to Senzu which took about 2 hours. The journey was fantastic as we travelled through mountains and valleys along the Oigawa River. When we reached Senzu we went for a hike through the mountain roads and onto the special suspension bridge over the valley! Don’t go on this bride if you are afraid of heights!

I was a great day and we spent a total of 8 hours on trains but we both enjoy train travel a lot so it was fun.

みなさん、こんにちは。

先週のシルバーウィークはいかがでしたか。

私はというと。初めて蒸気機関車にのることができました。

静岡県の金谷市から出発します。金谷は富士からはだいたい２時間のほど。

駅に到着すると外観～エンジンルームまで写真をとりました。とても面白かったです。

１９３０代に作られたそうなので、１００才に手がとどくほど。

乗客の車両は１９６０年に作られ、社内の雰囲気がとてもユニークでした。

車内には面白い車掌さんがいて、歌を歌ったり歴史を紹介してくれたり乗客を楽しませてくれました。

出発の金谷から終点の千頭まで２時間。景色が最高です。千頭からハイキングも楽しめます。

ハイキングの途中には吊り橋がありました。高さが嫌いな人は渡ってはいけません。怖いです。

ということで楽しい小旅行でした。
