Hello everyone,

I hope you enjoyed the good weather last weekend. It’s nice at the moment, and we have a few more days before the rainy season begins. I made the most of it and went to Fujikawa Craft Gardens in Yamanashi. It takes about one hour to drive to, through the winding mountain roads in the countryside. It’s a very scenic drive from Shizuoka to Yamanashi prefecture. The park is very beautiful and spacious. There are beautiful views of the mountains in the area and there’s lots to see and do. There is a huge playground for kids to explore, a labyrinth and a museum. My daughter really enjoyed playing there. I spent much of the time sitting in the shade. The hot sun was too much for me! We cooled down with some ice-cream. I got a little lost driving home so it took one and a half hours. All of the mountain roads look the same to me.

Next weekend we’ll take a trip to Tokyo to celebrate my daughter’s 4th birthday. We’re going to Ueno Zoo and Asakusa. She’s a big fan of animals so we’re looking forward to it. I’ll let you know how we got on next week.

Here at Hario I was talking to our students about their school trips last week. Many of them went to Lake Sai or Kyoto. They seem like the most common destinations, especially for Junior High School. When I was 15, we went on a school trip to the west of Ireland, to an area called the “Gaeltacht”. It has this name because people there speak Irish in day to day life. 99% of Ireland, including Dublin, speaks English daily, and I can barely speak any Irish! So, on that 3 day trip, we were encouraged to speak some Irish by playing games and going on hikes around the countryside. Hario Camp reminded me a little of that trip. It’s great to have fun with friends while being immersed in a new language. Enjoy learning English with us!

みなさんこんにちは。先週末は良いお天気を楽しめましたか。今の所天気も良く、梅雨が始まるまでにまだ数日はありそうです。

私は週末、山梨県の富士川クラフトパークへ行って過ごしました。曲がりくねった田舎の山道を通って車で約1時間かかります。静岡県から山梨県へ行くまでのドライブはとても景色が良いです。

パークはとてもきれいで広々としています。周辺の山々の美しい眺め、そして見るものすることがたくさんあります。子供たちが探検できる大きな遊び場や、迷路、博物館があります。私の娘はとても楽しんでいました。私はほとんど日陰ですわっていました。暑い太陽は私にはきついです！アイスクリームを食べて一休みしました。帰り道、少し迷ってしまい、1時間半かかりました。どの山道も同じに見えます。

次の週末私達は娘の4歳の誕生日を祝うために東京へ行く予定です。
