Last weekend it felt like the height of summer. The temperature rose above 30 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday. It was unusually hot for May, and it feels like spring is over. In Hokkaido, the temperature hit a record high of 39.5 degrees on Sunday. That was in the north of Hokkaido, which is almost as far north as Ireland! What do you think the record highest temperature in Ireland is? It was 33.3 C on 26th June 1887. The lowest temperature was -19.1 C on 16th January 1881. In Ireland, summer temperatures exceed 30 C usually once or twice every decade, so it’s very rare. These temperatures aren’t close to Japan’s records of 41.1 C in Kumagaya on 23rd July 2018, and  −41.0 C recorded at Asahikawa, Hokkaidō on 25th January 1902. So Japan has reached 41 degrees on both sides of the scale!

Looking forward to June next week, our summer parent’s day classes will begin. It’s a great opportunity for the parents to come and see the progress their children are making in their English. I hope they see the confidence in their children to speak up in class and show their conversational skills with a native speaker. I’m looking forward to seeing our students impress their parents!

This week we have been collecting our student’s speeches. I’ve seen some very interesting ones so far. It’s time to get cracking with our process of dictating, translating, writing vocabulary lists and recording the speeches. It takes some time, but it’s worth the wait to see our students get to work on learning their new speech. Good luck everyone!

先週末は、非常に熱くて夏がきたかのようでした。気温も３０度まであがりました。

５月は例年では、こんなに暑くはありません。北海道では、３９．５度だったとか。

北海道はアイルランドと同じぐらいの緯度にあるんです。

アイルランドの最高気温は何度ぐらいだと思いますか。

それは、１８８７年の６月２６日に記録された３３．３度です。

最低気温の記録は、１８８１年の１月１６日で、－１９．１度。

アイルだんどでは、３０度を超える日は、１０年に１度か２度程度です。３０度を超えるのは非常にまれなことです。

日本の最高気温は、２０１８年に熊谷で４１．４度。最低気温のきろくは、１９０２年１月に北海道でー４１．０度です。

すごい気温です！

来週から、早いクラスでは授業参観が始まります。保護者の皆さんにお会いできるのを楽しみにしていると共に、お子さんの上達を見ていただける機会でもあり楽しみです。生徒達が自信をもっていつも通り授業を受けてくれるといいなと思います。

先週がスピーチ作文の締切で、今週から訳をする作業に入っています。私のものとには、いくつか訳された作文が届きました。

これから校正、仕上げ、録音、CD作成という作業にすすんでいます。

時間はかかりますが、時間をかけるだけの価値があるスピーチホームワークだと思います。

スピーチCD配布は７月を予定しています。皆さん、がんばりましょうね。
