Hello everyone!August has always been a special month for me because of three things. It’s summer vacation which means no school (and for many teachers, no work!), the baseball season gets exciting and it’s my birthday! When I was a kid the main things I received as birthday presents were books and LEGO! I always loved reading and building things and LEGO was fantastic for a child with a big imagination. I had thousands of coloured blocks that I used to make castles, cars, spaceships, anything I wanted! Since the late 1990s, LEGO started making sets containing famous characters from comics, movie and television. Things like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel and Disney. These sets look great but it takes away some of the imagination for kids playing with them. Many peices only fit or are useful for making what the set is meant to make. My friends children will make these sets, play with them, get bored and put them away to collect dust. They don’t feel the need to build something new since the peices are meant to mostly make 1 things. That’s a shame. Luckily LEGO still sells it’s CITY sets and coloured blocks so children can still use their imagination!

8月は私にとって特別な月です。それは、３つの特別があるからです。一つは、夏休みで学校がないこと。野球のシーズンのまっただ中になること、最後は私の誕生日ということです。

子供の頃、誕生日プレゼントは、ほとんどが本かLEGOでした。私は本を読むだり作るのが大好きです。LEGOは子供の創造力を培うのに最適です。私は、数千ものブロック（LEGO)でなんでも作っていました。１９９０年の後半から、LEGOはマーベルやディズニー、スターウォーズ、ハリーポッターなどの人気キャラクターのLEGOセットを販売するようになりました。これらのセットはとてもいいのですが、想像力を育てられるかどうかは疑問です。子供達はすぐにあきてしまいます。作るものが決まってしまっているLEGOに、作りたいという気持ちが萎えてしまうのでしょう。でも心配なく。LEGOでは、昔のセットのような自分で考えて組み立てる、セットは売っています。お子様の創造力を育てるのにお勧めです。
