Hello everyone,

With summer coming to and end it has made me think about summers back in my home city of Toronto. One thing I always think about is looking out at the massive Lake Ontario and seeing many boats and the Toronto island.

Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes in Canada and America. They are HUGE! It is the 14th largest lake in the world and is 18,960 square kilometers. It isn’t the biggest Great Lake but it is deep. It’s deepest point is 244 meters with an average depth of 86 meters. It is so big that you cannot see across it, it’s like a small ocean.

It has many islands too! There’s an area called the Thousand Islands in lake Ontario which has 1,864 islands! Some are very small and the largest island is called Wolfe island which is 124 square kilometers.

I have many memories of being by the lake, watching boats, swans and many other birds. Maybe next time I’ll have my own boat to sail across it!

夏が終わろうとすると、私は故郷のトロントの夏を思い出します。思い出すことは、たくさんのボートがうかぶオンタリオ湖とむこうに見えるトロント島の風景です。オンタリオ湖は、カナダとアメリカをまたぐ５大湖の一つです。とてつもなく大きな湖です。世界で１４番目に大きく、18,960k㎡あります。一番大きいわけではありませんが、とても深いです。２４４メートルあり、平均の深さは８６メートルです。大きいので、湖を横断することもできません。まるで海です。

そして沢山の島々もあります。数先島と名付けられた島々がオンタリオ湖にはあり、なんと１８６４島もあるのです。小さな島から大きな島までさまざまで、一番大きな島はウルフ島といいます。１２４k㎡あります。私にはオンタリオ湖の思い出がたくさんあります。湖のそばでたたずんだり、船をみたり、泳いだり、鳥を観察したり。いつか、自分のボートでオンタリオ湖を横断できたらなーと思います。

皆さんが見た中で一番大きな湖はどれですか。教えてくださいね。
