Spring is in the air! That’s a common phrase we use in English that means it feels like spring has come at last. It’s the last week of February, so the seasons are changing. It’s getting warmer, and I saw some early cherry blossoms last weekend. However, they may have been ume cherry blossoms, which always bloom early. But it won’t be long before the trees rain pink blossoms everywhere. Will “hanami” be cancelled again this year because of covid?

Today is a national holiday because it’s emperor Naruhito’s birthday. It’s only the second time for a national holiday on his birthday because he ascended to the throne in 2019. He turns 61 years old today. Did you know he is Japan’s 126th Emperor? It’s amazing to see how long the list of emperors is throughout history. It all began in 660B.C. with the first Emperor Jimmu. Not much is known about him, but it is believed that he was the son of a goddess. 2,600 years and 125 monarchs later, we are still celebrating the emperor’s birthday. Japan has such interesting history. I’ve visited many museums here, and plans to visit more in the future. How much do you know about the history of your country? And how much more will we discover in the future?

春がきました。これは、春が来たように感じたときに使う英語でよく使うフレーズです。

今週は、２月最後の週で、季節の変わり目です。先週末は早咲きの桜を見つけました。

でもそれは、梅桜だったかもしれません。でも木々がピンクに彩られるまでそんなに時間はかからないでしょう。

今年も花見やキャンセルされてしまうのでしょうか？

今日は、天皇誕生日でお休みですね。彼は2019年に王位に就いたので、彼の誕生日の祝日は2回目です。

彼は今日61歳になります。彼が日本の126番目の天皇であることをご存知ですか？

長い歴史に驚かされますが、これは紀元前660年に初代神武天皇から始まりました。

彼についてはあまり知られていませんが、彼は女神の息子だったと信じられています。

それから２６００年後もまだ天皇誕生日を祝っています。日本にはとても興味深い歴史があります。

私は日本で多くの美術館を訪れましたが、これからももっと行き、日本の歴史を勉強したいです。

皆さんは、自分の国の歴史についてどのくらい知っていますか？そして、私たちは将来どれだけ多くを発見するでしょうか？
