Hello, Fuji!

Hello everyone!

My name is Matt and I am very excited to be living in Fuji and being a part of Hario! I am originally from Toronto, Canada and have been in Japan for 2 months. It’s been such an incredible experience so far and somewhat overwhelming! I have travelled all over the world in my life but this is my first time living somewhere where I have very limited knowledge of the local language; though I’m doing my best to learn Japanese. In fact, my first meal in Japan I walked into a restaurant and took a menu and pointed to the waiter to order something that I couldn’t read at all. When the food arrived it was spaghetti and meatballs! It turns out that the restaurant was Italian! So I will always remember my first “Japanese” meal was spaghetti and meatballs.

I’m looking forward to the spring as my hobbies are playing baseball, hiking, camping and cycling. My goal is to climb beautiful Mt. Fuji and cycle along the coast as much as I can… and see a NPB baseball game in every stadium! Fuji has been a welcoming city and I’m looking forward to exploring Shizuoka and meeting all the students at Hario!

みなさん、こんにちは。

私の名前はマットと言います。富士市での生活を楽しんでいます。そしてハリオの一員になれたことにもです。

私はカナダのトロントの出身です。日本にきて２カ月になります。この２カ月で素晴らし体験ができ、とても充実しています。

私は世界中を旅したことがありますが、言葉がほとんど分からない土地に住むのは初めてなので、日本語の勉強を頑張っています。

これは、私の中での笑い話ですが、日本にきて、食事をしようと初めてレストランに入りました。しかしメニューに書いてあることが全くわからず、メニューの文字を適当に指しました。食事がきてみると、それはスパゲッティとミートボールでした。そこで初めて、レストランがイタリアンレストランだとわかりました。その最初の思い出が強烈に頭に残っています。

私の趣味は、野球、ハイキング、キャンプそしてサイクリングなので春が待ち遠しいです。

目標は、美しい富士山に登ること、できるだけたくさんの場所を自転車で周る、日本のプロ野球を観戦することです。

富士市での生活はとても快適です。これから、静岡をたくさん知り、ＨＡＲＩＯの生徒の皆さんに会えるのを楽しみにしています。
